Eric Metaxas

Eric Metaxas is the New York Times-bestselling author of AMAZING GRACE:  William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery,  the official companion book to the feature film, and Everything You Always Wanted to Know About God (but were afraid to ask), which has been praised by Dick Cavett, George Gallup, Ann B. Davis (Alice of The Brady Bunch), and Tim Keller (“The difficulty is not to gush. ...a wise, funny, and disarming book.”)  Metaxas is also the founder and host of Socrates in the City, an acclaimed and popular Manhattan speakers series on "life, God, and other small topics". 

Eric was a staff writer for VeggieTales, writing their Hamlet/Omelet parody for the “Lyle the Kindly Viking” video, as well as many books, including the mega-best-seller God Made You Special! and Even Fishslappers Deserve a Second Chance.  He was also the the voice of the narrator on the Esther video.  Eric is the author of 30 children's books, including the bestselling Squanto & the Miracle of Thanksgiving, The Birthday ABC, Uncle Mugsy and the Terrible Twins of Christmas, and It’s Time to Sleep, My Love, a lullabye picture book that will be published by this fall.

Metaxas’ humorous essays and cultural commentary have appeared in The New York TimesThe Washington Post, Christianity Today, National Review Online, and First Things.  Woody Allen has called his humor writing “quite funny”, and the musician Moby has called Eric “one of the funniest people I know.”  Non-celebrities have been less generous.

Eric appears as a cultural commentator on CNN and the FoxNews Channel, and has been featured on Hannity & Colmes, NPR’s Morning Edition and Talk of the Nation, and many other programs.  He is in great demand around the country as a speaker and emcee, and is currently at work on a third Everything... About God book for Regal publishers, and on a new biography of the German martyr, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, for HarperCollins.  Both books are scheduled to be published in 2009.  Eric lives in New York City , with his wife and daughter.
